A Primary Bath and Guest Bathroom Remodel in Estero, FL

Challenge

After completing a kitchen renovation for this Estero client, we were asked to transform their dated beige bathrooms into serene and calming spaces reminiscent of some of their favorite travel destinations.

Solution

Primary Bathroom

Complete demolition of the primary bath was necessary to achieve the Japanese-inspired design that our client was looking for. While the tub, shower, and vanity remained in the same location, the new space was remodeled to create better flow, increased storage capacity, and of course aesthetics, with updated finishes and materials.

With practical purpose in mind, the primary bathroom was custom-designed with his and her floating vanities from Dura Supreme in sustainable bamboo. A functional above-counter storage tower eliminates the need to bend down for access.

Complimenting the cabinets, we chose black hardware resembling a Japanese pagoda roof, Brittanica Gold Cambria countertops, and black and gold leaf vanity lights by Ferguson.

The Japanese soaking tub was designed with built-in stairs and the tub deck was designed using the same Cambria and bamboo finishes as the vanity.  The floor around the bathtub was accented with Riverstone pebble tile flooring that flows into the adjacent open shower to tie the two spaces together.

By design, the Riverstone pebble flooring in the open shower and the ceiling-mounted shower head combine to create an effect that you are bathing under a waterfall. Further adding to the dramatic “outdoor” effect, we designed the shower walls using textured wave wall tile which also helped to hide the grout lines.

Continuing our quest to create a Japanese Zen oasis, we installed a new water closet door reminiscent of a Shoji screen. We also lavished the walls with a beautiful grasscloth wallpaper that had a subtle bamboo-like texture.  Large-format tiles (48″ x48″) complete the look covering most of the main floor with minimal grout lines. A stunning Fandalier fixture (light and fan in one) by Maxim finished off this truly unique primary bathroom.

Guest Bathroom

Using design influences from New Havana, we replaced all of the existing finishes with the exception of the tile floor. The wallpaper is called Pacaya Japura by Romo and is a stunning design featuring beautifully detailed palmetto palm leaves with a subtle textural appearance.  The rich wood cabinetry is Dura Supreme in maple finished with a coffee glaze.  The countertop is a Pompeii Quartz called Sunny Pearl which has a creamy beige background with broken seashells sprinkled in to bring your memories to the sandy oceanside. Sitting proud on the countertop is a beige travertine rectangular vessel sink by Signature Hardware. Finally, the Uttermost Balkan mirror is an eye-catching, rectangular wall mirror featuring beveled glass framed by hand-forged iron in lightly antiqued gold finish with an outer frame of clear, solid acrylic bars.  Working together all of these finishes were carefully chosen to create the feeling that you were taking an evening walk down the cobblestone streets of Havana.
