A charming 1970s contemporary home with a picture perfect view of Caloosahatchee River undergoes an extensive makeover that will see its classic features retained and new features carefully integrated to achieve a traditional, yet modern take on a “Key West Cottage.”

Challenge

When the homeowners of this two-story riverfront estate in Fort Myers, Florida approached Progressive Design Build, they had one clear need—to remodel every square inch, both inside and out.

Sitting on the beautiful Caloosahatchee River, this 6,000 sq. ft. home had spectacular views but needed a lot of tender loving care. The less than modest living room, kitchen, 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and 6-car garage all needed repair. The pool had been abandoned and the grounds, including the Koi pond, had been overgrown.

Solution

Progressive Builders hired an architect, a landscape architect, and an interior designer and managed the entire project from start to finish.

Honoring the house and the site, the design goal was to convert a very contemporary home to a “Key West Cottage”. From structural decisions through to landscaping touches, Progressive Design Build managed the whole renovation process.

Mike met with the architect on a regular basis for several weeks until the design was complete. We proposed a large wraparound porch; a tennis gallery gazebo for watching tennis matches on the private tennis courts, and a large gazebo to maximize the view of the Caloosahatchee River.

Progressive Design Build remodeled every bathroom, the kitchen, changed out all of the flooring, and turned the six-car garage into a nine-car garage. We also added a new roof, new siding, refinished the pool and pool deck, and repainted all of the walls and ceilings, both inside and out. In addition to a complete facelift of the house, we completed an extensive landscaping renovation and refinishing the tennis courts.

Results

The design and construction of this whole house remodel and exterior renovation translated into an understated elegance that frames the view from every angle. Stunning doesn’t begin to describe the transformation of this extensive remodel.
